About Ocean Commotion!

ROGER JENKINS returns to tell more delightful traditional stories bilingually (English/French) in tandem with Justine Devisse Mezrani from northern France and two musicians from Our Music Studio.

The 60-minute performance features three ocean-themed stories, presented in conjunction with the Ocean: Diving into the unknown exhibition. Two stories are from Japan – The Little Crab and the hugely popular Urashima Taro.  The final tale is Surf War, a highly interactive and comically cacophonous conservation confrontation, from the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific.

The stories celebrate kindness, sharing, respect for others, and the fact that even though we may be little (or very young) we can still do good!

Those who have seen Roger’s previous performances at the Alliance -Le Chat Botté (2019), The Legend of Wild Goose Lake (2023) and The Mountain That Loved a Bird (2024) have been enthralled by the combination of interactive storytelling, theatre, music and even puppets. The stories are told in a visual way, with dialogue that enables monolingual members of the audience to understand each story.

About Justine Devisse Mezrani

Justine Devisse Mezrani is originally from northern France and the mother of three young children. She arrived in Asia nearly 20 years ago, living first in Taipei and Shanghai before settling in Hong Kong, where she launched an online children’s bookstore specializing in French-language books.

While in Hong Kong, Justine rekindled her passion for theatre, performing in several French-language productions. Like Roger, she has a love for improvisation—though in French—and has taken part in numerous improv cabarets and shows. She also co-wrote and was the production director of a musical for the French May festival in Hong Kong.

In 2022, she moved to Singapore with her family. There, she continues her theatre journey with The Theatre Ensemble and performed in a French-language play at the Alliance Française. She still practices French-language improv—most recently winning the LIFA competition in Hanoi with her team in May 2025—and has begun musical theatre at Sing’theatre.

Roger and Justine’s performance also features two musicians from Our Music Studio, a premier music and movement enrichment centre in Singapore, dedicated to nurturing young children's musical foundations while fostering strong bonds with their caregivers. Now in their 13th year, their curriculum is inspired by Orff-Schulwerk, Kodály and Dalcroze, ensuring a holistic and engaging musical experience.
