In the heart of Central Africa, Denis Mukwege, a Congolese doctor and future Nobel Peace Prize laureate, risks his life to treat thousands of women who are victims of sexual violence. His meeting with Belgian surgeon Guy Cadière gives new strength to his mission. Together, they operate side by side, driven by the resilience and courage of women.
Muganga – The One Who Treats was selected for the official competition at the 2025 Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, where it won three Valois awards: the Audience Award, the Francophone Students’ Award, and the Best Actor Award, presented to Isaach de Bankolé for his portrayal of Dr. Denis Mukwege. Before its release, the film premiered in Kinshasa, at the Centre Culturel Boboto, in the presence of Dr. Mukwege himself. Angelina Jolie joined the production as an executive producer, supporting the project with the aim of “amplifying the voices of Congolese survivors and highlighting the essential work of Dr. Mukwege.”
As part of the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Singapore France Support Centre, which is the 1st foreign pro bono legal clinic in Singapore, and the 1st French pro bono legal clinic outside of France dedicated to women victims of violence, the screening will be followed by a short panel discussion bringing together representatives from partner institutions and civil society. The evening will conclude with a cocktail reception.
