Sông
A mother tells her daughter about her teenage years spent in hiding during the war in Vietnam against the US. Between 1969 and 1975, Linh, now a director, spent seven years with the communists revolutionaries, who introduced her to the resistance and to film.
This graphic novel, Sông, is an intimate narrative by a Vietnamese woman of an untold part of history and a portrait into the complex relationship that Hai-Anh, the author, has with her mother and her roots.
Presentation in French at 4pm, followed by book sale and signing onsite.
About the artist
Hai-Anh is scriptwriter and director. She grew up in Paris in a family very attached to its Vietnamese origins. In 2020, Hai-Anh moved to Ho Chi Minh City and now works between Vietnam & France.
Sông (2023) is her debut as a scriptwriter. To recount this family story, she enlisted the help of two important women—her mother, Linh, a director, and her childhood friend and illustrator, Pauline Guitton.
