Between the lines: with Yen Phang
Join us on this meet the artist session of "Singapore Refracted", our new art exhibition creating a quadralogue between four uniques interpretations of the city, each revealing a fragment of what makes Singapore unique, emerging a constellation of perspectives sgowcasing the roots and hypermodern facets of the country.
From 6.15 pm to 7.15pm, come meet Yen Phang himself, and discover a city that does not simply sleep and breathe, but one that arranges its own aliveness.
In this special Meet-the-Artist session, let Yen guide you through his singular vision which abstracts the organic into the architectural, and discover a nuanced interpretation of the Garden city that aims at becoming the City of the Jungle.

About the artist
Based in Singapore, Yen Phang creates art that probes the tension between the natural world and systems of control. With a background shaped by science and nature (born to a geneticist and an agriculturalist), his practice draws from biology not just as subject, but as metaphor and method. His work explores how bodies and environments are shaped, trimmed, and disciplined over time.
In recent years, Yen’s focus has deepened into themes of Singapore's urban nature and impermanence. His abstract paintings reflect on Singapore’s carefully maintained “garden city,” where wildness is tamed into visual quiet. Using precise strokes and muted, flesh-toned palettes, he evokes ideas of camouflage, bodily fragility, and the quiet violence of order.
Working across painting and installation, Yen has developed a visual language evoking cells, skin, and digital noise. His art araises questions about how much of ourselves and our environment can be reshaped before they cease to be what they were?
