After a dangerous sea crossing and a stay in a Malaysian refugee camp, a young Vietnamese girl named Tinh and her family arrive in Quebec where they begin a new life. Thanks to the warm welcome from all, including their sponsor family, she slowly adapts to her new reality. Tinh will overcome her shyness to learn a new language, discover a new culture and adjust to a new life in Quebec.

The film premiered in the Special Presentations program at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Its story is an adaptation of Kim Thúy's award-winning 2009 novel Ru, counting the story of the first wave of Boat People who fled Vietnam between 1977 and 1979 and the trauma they lived through.
