In a magical, faraway land, a widower king decrees that he will wed his daughter, the princess, because she's the only woman able to match his former queen's beauty. To dodge the incestuous union, the princess -- with the help of a magical fairy -- disguises herself as a donkey and escapes to a neighboring kingdom. There, the donkey-skinned maiden encounters a handsome prince who falls in love with her.

Thanks to its wonder-styled music led by iconic composer Michel Legrand, the movie soundtrack has become a pop-culture icon since its release in the early 70s. Performances of both leading actors Catherine Deneuve (multiple César Awards for Best-Actress) and Jacques Perrin earned the film cult status.
